Q1. What is your perception about the status and scope of Solar industry in India?

With a swiftly urbanizing and growing population, the demand for power in India is only expected to grow. As per the Power Ministry report, as on Aug 2017, India has 330 GW total installed capacity of power generation. This includes 31% share of renewable energy.

 

The solar power sector in specific is also doing well. In fact, the latest reports confirm that cumulative installed capacity for solar in India has reached 20GW*. And the sector continues to strive towards the ‘100 GW by 2022’ goal set by the government.

 

With some well-directed government support, we certainly see a bright future for the solar sector,and solar manufacturing in specific,in India in the coming years.

 

RenewSys is a leading manufacturer that supplies solar panels and its key components namely Encapsulants, Backsheets and Solar PV Cells.

 

The quality and performance of our products in-field has lent us credibility globally, and we have a significant share of our products being exported to Europe, Middle East and Africa. These markets are also seeing an appreciation of solar systems both on–grid and off-grid; and Indian module manufacturers who can guarantee quality and performance, will only see growth.

Q2. What are the real fundamental benefits and challenges of Solar power? How is Renewsys India helping in these aspects?

 

Solar power has several benefits that have been extolled for a while now. These include the fact that it is a renewable resource. It is a green source of power, as it tackles the problem of exhaust fumes and more.

 

Storage, grid parity and the higher cost per watt of power are challenges that have been around almost from the inception of the industry and are being addressed in varying measures.

 

Solar panels have also come a long way.

For instancethis January, RenewSys recently became one of the only 5 companies in the world to have launched a 380 Wp solar panel. This is a big jump from the power output that solar panels were delivering previously.

 

Using the combination of completely automated European machinery and German technology, we are able to offer a range of solar panels ranging in size and output from 40 Wp to 380 Wp. These include Multi and Mono Crystalline Cell Modules that use standard as well as PERC Solar PV cells.

 

RenewSys is committed to the future of the solar power sector in India. Recognizing that reliability is as significant, if not more, than quality, for the life of solar panels we have investedin setting up India’s only ‘Reliability Testing’ lab at our manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. All our panels are put throughthree times the testing conditions, than those required as per external certification standards, ensuring that module performance meets expectations.

 

 

Q3. Could you share what product range is more suitable in the Indian context?

India is a diverse country. We have climatic conditions that range from hot and arid,to hot with high humidity and even extremely dry and cold weather.

RenewSys celebrates this diversity.

 

Our solar panels are engineered to withstand the onslaught of adverse weather, high heat, humidity and even salt mist. This ensures that our panels are a home regardless of the region in which they are installed.

 

Our solar panel/ module certifications from third party labs include IEC, UL, CAN CSA, MCS,we are listed in DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), and have been independently audited by Solar Buyer as well.

 

These diverse certifications and product performance are made possible thanks to the extensive in-house testing we carry out at our dedicated R&D and reliability testing lab at Hyderabad. These simulate adverse climatic conditions through tests like Damp Heat and temperature cycling, ensuring the life and optimal performance of our panels.

 

RenewSys is also a leading supplier of module components i.e. Encapsulants (EVA & POE), Backsheets (including 1500 VDC, Black backsheets, Copper backsheets, Etc.) and Solar PV Cells. This gives us an additional advantage when it comes to module manufacturing aswe are better able understand how these components interact with each other on field.

 

Along with these factors, which are non-negotiables for the sustainable growth of solar in India, grid parity i.e. a lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of solar power than the cost of purchasing power from the grid; and incentivizing the adoption of solar, will all work in tandem towards the growth of solar in India.

 

Q4. How do you update yourself on the latest technology? Tell us about the latest technological features you’re offering in your Solar energy ?

As stated earlier, we at RenewSys are committed to producing quality, reliable solar products for the growth of solar in India.

 

It is our meticulously planned manufacturing systems and processes, which create a symphony between the state of the art machinery that we have invested in, and a talented, committed R&D team.

 

New product design and development and improving the performance of our products on field are both ongoing efforts for at our plants.

 

We have filed for several patents and hold the distinction of being the first to launch 5BB Solar PV Cells in India, under the brand name RenewSys ‘RESERV’. Along with this we are the only certified manufacturer of POE and export a range of our encapsulants under the brand name RenewSys ‘CONSERV’. Our range of Backsheets made available worldwide under the brand name RenewSys ‘PRESERV’ include Black Backsheet, 1500 VDC, Transparent backsheet etc.

 

Our Module range, RenewSys ‘DESERV’ includes standard multi and mono crystalline modules that range in power outputs from 40 Wp – 325 Wp and 275 Wp – 300 Wp respectively.

 

We have developed a range of panels to specially cater to the requirements of pumping sets used extensively in agriculture. These high voltage panels are called ‘Prime’ & ‘X Prime’and are available in 120 and 144 cell configurations.

 

RenewSys recently launched our top of the line panels under the ‘Galactic’ Series. These include a 340 Wp& 365 Wp Multi Crystalline and 355 Wp & 380 Wp Mono Crystalline PV Modules. These panels have been designed to utilize a smaller installation space as compared to standard panels, to obtain a higher energy output.

 

The ‘Galactic’ Series modules are in compliance with the internationally recognized IEC standards, and are built to reduce the hot-spot effect, ensuring the longevity of the modules.

 

The 365 Wp & 380 Wp Modules are made using PERC Solar PV cells. PERC cells have higher energy density per square foot as they are designed to improve light capture near the rear surface of the solar cell, and perform well under low light and high temperature conditions.

 

 

Q6. Share us your latest completed projects details?
RenewSys has built a name for itself in the solar industry both in India and globally thanks to a range of technologically superior, reliable products. Our panels are currently supplied to leading EPC contractors, utility scale grid projects and to large institutions globally.

 

To cater to the steadily increasing rooftop and small ground mounted system requirements, we have a tie – up with a pan India distributor, and with a couple of distributors overseas as well.

 

One of the most recently completed, noteworthy international rooftop projects is the Ekurhuleni Civic Centre, 250 KW Rooftop Solar Panel installation that we completed at South Africa.

Wehave recently also supplied 5MW DCR Modules to a BDL project, which comes under the Ministry of Defense. Other major projects where RenewSys DERSERV Modules have been used include famous Indian Shrines, renowned Colleges, etc. Several such projects are currently underway.

 

 

Q5. China is considered a potential competitor to India in Electrical sector;  how well is India poised to take on the global challenge?

The Solar industry in India hasbeengrowing and is equipping itself to compete globally. The added emphasis on domestic manufacturing by the government,through the ‘Make In India’ initiative, is further encouraging this growth.

 

However, the industry still needs to work on building the entire value chain (i.e. Polysilicon, Ingot &Wafer manufacturing). The safeguards and support that the domestic industry receives will help add emphasis to integrated manufacturing, strengthening the industry as a whole.
