The Indian Power Sector has witnessed a strong all round revival in the last five years with growth rateaveraging at about 6 percent per year.

Like as a power plant to an electric substation, power electric transmissionis said to be the bulk movement of electrical energyfrom a generating site. The bulk movement is facilitated by the interconnected lines which are particularly known as transmission network.

Electric power distribution is the name given to the local wiring, when this wiring is between the high voltage substations and customers. In North America,when the transmission and distribution networks are combined it is commonly known as power grid. Mostly transmission lines are of the voltage three faze Alternative Current (AC)which is used in railway electrification system.

For covering very long distance, submarine power cables and in the interchange of power between grids for greater efficiency, high voltage direct current(HVDC)technology is used. The stabilization of large power distribution network can result in synchronization& cascading failures.

The reduction of energy loss which occurs in long distance transmission, electricity at high voltage is responsible for it. Key limitation has become result in lack of electrical energy storage facilities in transmission system. The demand should match the power generation to have sophisticated control system.The imbalance in power generation can cause disconnection or it will shut down.

Overhead Transmission:

Insulation is not covered on high voltage overhead conductors. Its an aluminum alloy which is made and re-in forced into several steel strands. Several companies supply overhead conductors as a commodity. With varying resistance and current carrying capacitythese conductor sizes range from12mm to 750mm. The reason behind the thicker wires leading to small capacity is due to the skin effect which is responsible for the current to flow to the surface of the wire. The usage of multiple parallel cables are being done because of this current limitation. The reduction of energy loss caused by corona discharge bundle conductors are used at high voltage. Transmission level voltages , nowadays is considered to be 110 KV and above. Sub transmission voltage which is considered to be lower voltages of 66 KV and 33 KVare used on long lines with light loads. For distribution purpose, voltages less than 33 KV are mainly used.
